1950s | Indian Orthodox Church members came to Boston area universities for higher studies. One of them was Rev. Fr. K. Philipose (late His Grace Philipose Mar Theophilos Metropolitan). |
1960s | Boston Orthodox Church congregation is formed and liturgical worship started by priests from New York and other cities for the members in Boston and New England. Rev. Fr. K.M. Simon, Rev. Fr. C.O. Vargis, Rev. Fr. M.T. Kurian, Rev. Fr. A.T. Abraham are a few among them. His Grace Mathews Mar Athanasius was the Out-side Kerala Diocesan Metropolitan (late His Holiness Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews I). |
1972 | Boston became an official parish under the Out-side Kerala Diocese. Rev. Fr. K.C. George (late Very Rev. Geevarghese Remban of Thiruvithamcode) was the first vicar and the Metropolitan was His Grace Mathews Mar Athanasius (late His Holiness Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews II). |
1970s | Rev. Dn. Abraham Thomas was ordained priest and Rev. Fr. Philip Jacob came to Boston as a student at the Hellenic College. Both Rev. Fr. Abraham Thomas and Rev. Fr. Philip Jacob served the Boston parish with services twice a month on a regular basis. |
1977 | Rev. Dn. K.G. Philipose arrived in Boston. His Grace Thomas Mar Makarios Metropolitan was given a reception followed by Holy Qurbana at the Hellenic College Chapel. His Grace Paulose Mar Gregorios Metropolitan visited Boston during a WCC Faith and Order Conference. We have used rental spaces at the Chapel of Episcopal Convent in Boston, Marsh Chapel of Boston University, and Parish Hall at West Bridgewater Congregational Church. |
1980 | His Eminence Mathews Mar Coorilos Metropolitan, the Catholicos-designate, ordained Rev. Dn. K.G. Philipose priest. |
1980s | Regular worship services on Sundays and on important festival days under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Abraham Thomas and Rev. Fr. K.G. Philipose. Metropolitans His Grace Stephanos Mar Theodosius, His Grace Geevarghese Mar Osthathios, His Grace Joseph Mar Pachomius, His Grace Mathews Mar Barnabas, and His Grace Paulose Mar Gregorios visited our parish. We have used rental spaces at the Marsh Chapel of Boston University, Parish Hall at West Bridgewater Congregational Church, Boston Seventh day Adventist Temple, and Chapel of Metropolitan State Hospital @ Waltham. |
1990 | Rev. Fr. Abraham Thomas separated from Congregation and organized St. Stephen’s Knanaya Church under the Knanaya Diocese. |
1991 | St. Mary’s Indian Orthodox Church of Boston was incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts under the leadership of Rev Fr K G Philipose. |
1992 | His Grace Mathews Mar Barnabas visited our parish as the Diocesan metropolitan. |
1993 | His Holiness Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews II came to Boston; this was his first visit to USA as the Catholicos and Malankara Metropolitan. |
1995 | The parish decides to take steps to own a place of worship and elected a Building committee with Mr. Isac Varughese as the Convener. Metropolitans His Grace Geevarghese Mar Ivanios, His Grace Mathews Mar Epiphanios, His Grace Thomas Mar Athanasius, His Grace Abraham Mar Severios, His Grace Kiriakose Mar Clemis, and His Grace Philipose Mar Eusebius visited our parish. We have used rental spaces at the Chapel of Metropolitan State Hospital @ Waltham, Chapel of Walter Fernald School @ Waltham, Chapel of Middlesex County Hospital @ Waltham, and Chapel of Espousal center @ Waltham. |
2000s | The Building Committee with Mr. T.M. Jacob as Convener actively looking to have a place of worship of our own. |
2002 | A contract was signed in November with Cardinal Law of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston to purchase one of their churches in Maynard, MA. Members pledged their support and raised sufficient fund to complete the acquisition. |
2003 | The purchase was completed in April, and we have used the rental space of Chapel of Espousal center @ Waltham until May 4, 2003. Temporary dedication of the church building at Maynard was conducted on May 10 by the vicar Rev. Fr. K.G. Philipose, first Holy Qurbana was celebrated on May 11, and the church was consecrated by the Metropolitans H.G. Mathews Mar Barnabas, H.G.Thomas Mar Makarios, and H.G. Zachariah Mar Nicholovos on September 5 and 6 assisted by several priests and deacons in the presence of faithful from various parts of USA and other church dignitaries and political leaders. The patron saint of this parish is St. Mary, the Mother of God and the other 2 altars are dedicated in the names of St. Thomas, the Founder and Apostle of our Church, and St. Gregorios of Parumala. |
2008 | Rev Fr Jobson Kottappurathu was appointed as the vicar replacing Rev Fr K G Philipose on Sep 10, 2008. |
2009 | Rev Fr Roy P George was appointed as the vicar replacing Rev Fr Jobson Kottappurathu. |
